PROPEX Armormax
Engineered erosion control for surficial slopes and shoreline protection
Balance performance, cost, and environmental impact on unstable slopes, eroding shorelines.
Geotechnical slope failure and soil erosion can occur in any region. Steepened slopes often require stabilization and protection from surface erosion. In some cases, when the slope is stable, protection from surface erosion is still required. The incorporation of an Engineered Earth Armoring Solution can assist in remediating geotechnical slope failure by passively resisting soil movement. Our solutions promote reinforced vegetation, and are highly UV stabilized to perform in the harshest environments, even when vegetation is sparse.
Traditional hard-armoring methods like riprap, concrete, or gabions are expensive, disruptive to install, and often unsustainable in the long term. They fail to support vegetation, leading to ongoing maintenance and increased ecological degradation. To more reliably stabilize these high-risk areas, engineers need a more adaptable, resilient approach to erosion control.
Proven performance with PROPEX Armormax erosion control systems
PROPEX® Armormax® offers a high-performance solution for permanent erosion control and surficial slope stabilization that provides vegetated reinforcement, improves the factor of safety, and significantly reduces the probability of failure. This system combines a patented High Performance Turf Reinforcement Mat (HPTRM) with Engineered Earth Anchors™, creating an integrated design that resists hydraulic and gravitational forces while supporting reinforced vegetation. Engineered for severe erosion challenges, PROPEX Armormax performs where conventional erosion control fabric falls short, delivering immediate soil reinforcement and long-term stabilization.
PROPEX Armormax is used for a wide range of infrastructure and environmental applications, including the stabilization of steep slopes along highways and railways, hillside erosion control on residential and commercial developments, and shoreline protection for lakes, rivers, and coastal zones. It is also used in levee armoring, stormwater channels, vegetated reinforced soil slopes (RSS), and streambank restoration. By offering both structural integrity and environmental compatibility, PROPEX Armormax meets the needs of demanding civil projects and ecological restoration initiatives alike.
Key benefits:
Engineered for high performance – With superior tensile strength, durability, and anchoring capacity, PROPEX Armormax outperforms standard erosion control mats and turf reinforcement systems.
Supports permanent vegetated cover – The system promotes rapid root growth and natural habitat restoration, delivering long-term resilience against erosion.
High UV stabilization: Designed with high UV stabilization providing up to 75 years of design life even in areas with sparse to no vegetation.
Faster and more cost-effective installation – Lightweight and modular, PROPEX Armormax reduces labor, transport, and installation time compared to riprap or concrete.
Reduced carbon footprint – Its environmentally preferred profile aligns with sustainability goals and green infrastructure standards. PROPEX Armormax has a verified carbon footprint by a third-party organization.
Improves groundwater: This technology encourages groundwater back into the water table, and has been recognized by the EPA as a Best Management Practice (BMP) for improving ground water quality.
Tested and proven – Tested by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and proven to provide increased levee resilience and reduce the risk of breaching caused by overtopping. The USACE has installed PROPEX Armormax on more than 100 miles of coastal and river levees throughout the USA.
Fire Resistant: Engineered to resist fire ignition using non-halogen fire retardant technology.
