Role Purpose
The Engineering Business Manager – Mining is responsible for driving specification-led growth across the mining sector by influencing civil, geotechnical, and mining engineers to adopt Solmax solutions.
The role focuses on engaging at the design stage, shaping engineering outcomes, and positioning geosynthetics as core components of mine infrastructure design, rather than optional materials. Success requires deep technical credibility combined with strong commercial execution.
Key Responsibilities
Specification & Design Influence (Core Focus)
Build and maintain relationships with:
Civil and geotechnical consultants
Mining engineers and asset owners
Key contractors
Influence design specifications, scopes, and engineering standards to embed Solmax solutions
Engage early in project lifecycles (concept, feasibility, detailed design stages)
Position geosynthetics as risk-reduction and performance-enhancing solutions
Technical Leadership & Engineering Support
Provide advanced technical guidance and design support across:
Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs)
Heap leach pads
Evaporation and process ponds
Water management structures
Haul roads and working platforms
Deliver value engineering solutions (cost, constructability, performance)
Deliver technical presentations and workshops for consultants and owners
Interpret and apply relevant standards and guidelines (e.g. ANCOLD, GRI, site-specific specifications)
Business Development & Pipeline Growth
Develop and manage a mining project pipeline across Australia
Identify opportunities to convert specifications into supply and revenue
Collaborate with sales and project delivery teams to ensure seamless execution
Drive long-term adoption of standardised geosynthetic solutions across mining clients
Key Account & Stakeholder Management
Establish Solmax as a trusted engineering partner to:
Tier 1 mining companies
Engineering consultancies
Mining and civil contractors
Build strategic relationships at both technical and decision-making levels
Support contractors during tender and construction phases
Market Intelligence & Strategic Input
Monitor market trends, competitor positioning, and emerging technologies
Provide insights to internal teams on:
Product development opportunities
Market needs and specification gaps
Contribute to national mining strategy and key account plans
Key Outcomes (KPIs)
Growth in specifications influenced and secured at design stage
Conversion of specifications into delivered revenue
Expansion of mining sector pipeline and key accounts
Increased adoption of Solmax solutions as standard design practice
Strength of relationships with consultants, contractors and asset owners
Qualifications and Skills
This role is critical to helping mining companies construct simpler, more efficiently and more cost effectively with Solmax solutions.
By influencing how mines are designed, from containment systems to ground stabilisation, the Engineering Business Manager directly drives safer, more efficient, and more sustainable mining operations, while delivering long-term commercial growth.
Ideally
Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering
7–15+ years’ experience in Mining infrastructure / Geosynthetics / containment / ground engineering
Strong technical expertise in Lining systems (geomembranes, GCLs) / Reinforced soil and geogrids / Drainage and filtration systems
Proven ability to influence engineering design and specifications
Key Competencies

Own vehicle suitable for transport to/from meetings or airport as required
