Overview
The Transportation Coordinator coordinates various transportation functions to ensure timely and cost-effective order fulfillment and delivery of goods to the customer. Process orders through the Transportation Management System as well as trouble shoot.
Responsibilities
Act as the primary point of contact for Customer Service regarding sales order processing, ensuring consistent follow-up and communication. Manage order flow after entry by the Customer Service Representative (C.S.R.).
Oversee material availability, scheduling, and coordination of order tendering with truck lines, distributing orders to the warehouse as needed.
Arrange all shipment pickups and deliveries with transportation companies for vendors and customers.
Obtain rate quotes, track shipments, and evaluate the performance of transportation companies when required.
Maintain close communication with production planning to stay updated on changes in product availability
Collaborate with operations control to manage product availability, shipping dates, and shipment arrangements.
Proficient in Microsoft Suite (including Excel), with strong numerical skills. Experience with Transportation Management System (TMS), GeoDocs, SharePoint, Lotus Notes, and AS400.
Investigate and resolve invoice discrepancies.
Provide backup support for Shipping Clerk, Inventory Control Specialist, and cycle counter as needed.
Keep scorecards and reports up to date for management.
Serve as a super user of the transportation management system, supporting all facilities.
Manage inventory efficiently with expertise.
Develop and implement processes to improve supply chain efficiency and organization.
Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications & Skills
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Certificate in Transportation Management System
5 years of transportation experience.
Familiarity with laws, regulations, and ISO requirements that apply to logistics
3 years TMS experience, Mercury Gate preferred as well as OpenDoc scheduler and Emerge RFP/Bid tool
Experienced with Domestic Flatbed, Van, Intermodal, and Parcel shipping as well as International OTR, Intermodal, and Ocean shipping
Full understanding of all required shipping documentation including Bills of Lading, Packing Lists, Commercial/ProForma Invoices, Letters of Credit, Letters of Instructions, Certificates of Insurance, Certificates of Origin, Customs Declarations, etc.
Above average skills in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
Strong problem-solving skills
